Organized and Federally recognized 13 December 1922 in the Connecticut National Guard at Bridgeport as the 1st Battalion. 242d Artillery (Coast Artillery Corps) from the following units:
337th Company, Coast Artillery Corps (organized 11 September 1861 as Light Infantry Company B, 8th Regiment)
338th Company. Coast Artillery Corps (organized 18 September 1863 as Light Infantry Company K. 8th Regiment)
339th Company, Coast Artillery Corps (organized and Federally recognized 30 October 1922)
Redesignated 29 May 1924 as the 1st Battalion, 242d Coast Artillery
Expanded, reorganized, and redesignated l April 1927 as the 242d Coast Artillery
Inducted into Federal service 16 September 1940 at home stations
(3d Battalion redesignated 13 September 1943 as the 2d Battalion. 23d Coast Artillery- hereafter separate lineage)
Regiment broken up 7 October 1944 and it elements reorganized and redesignated as follows:
