Requests for Connecticut Military Department Event Support

The Connecticut Military Department (CTMD) is a unique dual-status agency, having both federal and state missions. The federal mission is to maintain properly trained and equipped Connecticut National Guard (CTNG) units for prompt federalization in the event of war, domestic emergencies or other emergencies. The state mission is to coordinate, support and augment federal, state and local authorities in emergency response, to provide emergency response planning and to conduct community service programs. Community support entails partnering with the community and citizens in accordance with applicable law and policy.

If you wish to request military support for your event, please complete and the required form(s) (see below) including any additional information in a formal letter addressed to the Adjutant General. Please submit your request at least 90 days in advance. Be advised – there are a certain legal restrictions on the type of organizations and events to which the CTMD may provide support.

General Requests

To request support from any component of the CTMD – Connecticut Army National Guard, Connecticut Air National Guard or the Governor's Horse and Foot Guards – please complete and return DD Form 2536 (Request for Armed Forces Participation in Events)(PDF). Include any additional details in a cover letter on your organizational letterhead, addressed to the Adjutant General at least 90 days in advance.

The CTMD can generally provide the following types of support: color guards, static displays, speakers, band performances, and support to parades, dedications, fairs and other events.

Flyover Requests

​The Connecticut Army and Air National Guard fly and maintain several models of aircraft that may be able to perform a flyover of your event. Event organizers should be aware that military aircraft flyover requests are subject to additional guidelines and restrictions.

Connecticut Army National Guard Flyovers

The Connecticut Army National Guard flies the UH-60 Black Hawk and the CH-47 Chinook helicopters. To request a Connecticut Army National Guard flyover, please complete DD form 2535 (Request for Military Aerial Support)(PDF) and submit at least 90 days in advance.

Connecticut Air National Guard Flyovers

The Connecticut Air National Guard flies and maintains the C-130H Hercules fixed wing aircraft. To request a Connecticut Air National Guard flyover at your event, please visit the 103rd Airlift Wing Aerial Events Page for instructions.

Request Review

​All requests are subject to review and are granted based on event eligibility and personnel and equipment availability. You will receive notification of the acceptance or denial of your event in writing.
