Command Sgt. Maj. Arthur Fredericks

State Command Sergeant Major

CSM Arthur Fredericks is the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for the Connecticut National Guard. As the CSEL, he serves as the personal and confidential advisor to The Adjutant General on all matters pertaining to enlisted personnel and the overall readiness, training, operations, and administration of the Connecticut National Guard.

CSM Fredericks enlisted in the United States Army on 20 June 1988 as an Infantryman assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. At the conclusion of his enlistment CSM Fredericks joined the Connecticut National Guard on 20 June 1990 as a member of the 102nd Infantry Battalion. His assignments have included leadership positions at every level of the Connecticut Army National Guard from team leader in the Infantry Battalion to Command Sergeant Major on 28 September 2007.

CSM Fredericks operational deployment experience includes mobilizations in support of Operations Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom. Additionally, he has supported a multitude of operations in Airport Security and Key Asset Protection in Connecticut.

CSM Fredericks military education includes all levels of NCOPDS, the Master Fitness course, the Battle Staff NCO Course, Conventional Physical Security/Crime Prevention Course, Pathfinder Course, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Level II Force Protection Course, Antiterrorism Officer basic Course, Antiterrorism Officer Advanced Course and numerous others. CSM Fredericks is a 2019 graduate of Nominative Leader Course.

CSM Fredericks awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal(2nd award), Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), Army Achievement Medal (6th award), Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (w/Gold Hourglass, M device, and numeral 2), National Defense Service Medal (1 Bronze service star), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge (“T” device), Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge as well as others.

CSM Fredericks has been invested in the Order of the Saint Maurice (in Primicerius) by the United States Army Infantry Association. He is an executive board member of the Connecticut State Chapter of the National Infantry Association.

CSM Fredericks had a very prestigious civilian law enforcement career in conjunction with his military service. Having served at the command level in each Division of the Bloomfield, CT Police Department over the span of his 21 year career.

CSM Fredericks was raised in Newtown, Connecticut and currently resides in Canton, Connecticut.
